Contal was established in the 1980s as a travel agency that provided expert advice to the community. Our deep understanding of the travel and tourism sector fueled our leap into technology in the 2000s, where we disrupted the industry with a piece of game-changing technology.

To rival large corporations in the travel industry, we built the inaugural software that allowed its users to compare and book domestic airfares, accommodation, car hire and vacation activities all on a single screen. We changed the rules of online travel, leaving big-name competitors scrambling to replicate our success. And replicate they did – consumers nowadays will be hard pressed to find an online travel site not using technology based on our breakthrough software.
Pioneers in Mobile Travel Technology
Leading the Way with the World’s First Mobile Flight Booking Demo and App
We were the first company in the world to do a demo on a WAP (wireless application protocol) browser that enabled flight bookings on mobile phones. WAP content was the first that offered opportunities to interact with internet and web applications on a mobile device, before it was eventually superseded by modern standards. Through our interaction with WAPs, we were ahead of the game and leading the charge with application development, where we were the first company to release a travel booking app in the App Store in 2009.
